CLASS 5 SOCIAL ACTIVITY – GRAM PANCHAYAT – DEMOCRACY IN ACTION!

Jubilee Hills Public School, Hyderabad, proved its commitment to experiential learning by organizing a vibrant and thought-provoking session titled “Gram Panchayat – Democracy in Action!” on 31st July 2025, which brings democracy alive with Gram Panchayat simulation for Class 5 students.

This two-hours of simulation brought the concept of local self-governance to life, immersing students in the democratic framework laid out by the 73rd Amendment Act of the Indian Constitution. From electoral procedures to campaigning, from voting through Ballot Box to forming the Panchayat – every stage of the democratic process was creatively enacted by the young participants.

The event began with a prayer song and dance, setting the stage on Panchayati Raj for an insightful journey into the heart of rural India, where decisions are taken not in offices but under trees – by the people, for the people and of the people.

The students brilliantly explained the structure and function of the Panchayati Raj system, including its three-tier structure – Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zilla Parishad. They portrayed villagers, ward members, sarpanch candidates, and even the State Election Commissioner, showcasing their understanding of electoral conduct and governance.

The highlights of the programme were Elections, Voter Education, live voting session and finally Panchayat Meeting Role Play which left everyone spellbound.

The President, Shri. A. Murali Mukund appreciated the students’ coordination and said that leaders should be truthful and do justice to their roles and need to sacrifice a lot for the sake of the people and work for the betterment of the society. They should lead the team with integrity and look after the civic bodies for the smooth functioning of the government.

The event concluded with a powerful message from the elected Sarpanch and his team, pledging to work for the betterment of the community and symbolizing the value of democracy.
