Celebrating festivals is an integral part of learning at Jubilee Hills Public School. Being a multifarious country, through such celebrations, children not only learn the importance of the festival, but they also learn to embrace other traditions and customs just like they do with their own.
JHPS celebrated Dussehra with great zeal and energy. Dussehra, also known as Vijaya Dashami, or Dashan, the tenth day of Navratri or Durgotsav, is one of the most important festivals celebrated in various forms across India. The name Dussehra has been derived from Sanskrit language “Dash and Hara”. The festival is celebrated as the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. It also celebrates the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. Hence it symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.
The special assembly began with a Bathukamma dance presented by Tiny tots. They dressed themselves in colourful ethnic wear and performed the dance. It was a mesmerizing performance. A few children spoke about the significance of the festival in Telugu and English language and how the celebrations go across the nation.
The highlight of the program was the ‘Garba Dance’ by Primary children which is one of the dance forms of Gujarat. A melodious song was presented by Primary kids on goddess Durga. Secondary children presented a dance drama which depicted how Lord Rama built Ram Sethu and killed Ravana and liberated his wife Sita from his confinement. They also performed dance in a graceful manner. It was a worth-seeing scene. The children enjoyed the mesmerizing performances.
The celebration was presided over by Principal, Ms. P. Kanchana Valli, Primary Headmistress, Ms. Vidhu Mohan and Coordinators. They wished students, parents, and teachers a very happy and prosperous Dussehra . The joyous event lit up the environment and brightened the festive mood.
