| JHPS has completed the Year II Voice Thread Packaging Study Project productively. This year too, the school pursued the partnership with the Exploris Middle School (USA) for a Kenan Fellows Project sponsored by MWV surrounding packaging which includes modifying the Voice Thread Project to make it more applicable to problem solving and critical thinking about packaging.

| The main objective of this project is to share ideas between the two countries and encourage the participating students in developing team work and enriching their technical skills along with gaining insights into cross cultural aspects. It was proposed to have the communication channel through e-mail or web conferencing.

| Our team consisted of 16 students of class VIII and four teachers to execute this project.

| The coordinating teacher at EMS is Sonja McKay. Additional teachers at EMS are Arielle Angle, Meredith Cheetham, Beth Eastman, and Karen Rectanus. The coordinating teacher at JHPS is M.Lakshmi Gowri. The additional teachers at JHPS are Prasanna Lakshmi, Shailaja Bhandari, and Sonali Naidu.

| Phase One: Introductions
|

Goal: To build personal relationships and increase cultural understanding through the exchange of introductory information about families, interests, school, and geography.
Product: Individual introductory documents were created by the students. Documents were shared prior to web-conferencing for creation of student-to-student questions.

| Phase Two: Packaging Study
|
| |
Goal: To analyze the purpose of local packaging and suggest improvements.
Product: Using VoiceThread, the student teams posted photographs of current packaging

| Phase Three: Innovative Packaging Challenge
|
| |
Goal: Using ideas generated during the Packaging Study, students designed and built an innovative and sustainable package that addressed suggested improvements.
Product: The Students were brainstormed on packaging and posted their final ideas to
VoiceThread. They were to follow-up with questions in a final web-conferencing session which could not be held due to final examinations.

| Visit to Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) |

| On 13 April, 2010 16 students, 3 teachers and Mr Srinivas -the Co ordinator visited the IIP at Sanatnagar. The had an opportunity to visit different labs and Ms Divya, the lab co ordinator explained the different types of testing methods. All the models designed by our students were tested as shown in pictures below . The strength of the four models is shown in graphical structure which proved that they are weight-resistant.

| Dr. Karna, the Director of IIP apprised the students with the latest equipment on packaging and its importance. He also discussed the different ways of disposal and insisted on the four ‘R’s – Reduce, Refuse, Reuse and Recycle.

| In a nutshell, the students were enlightened on ‘Importance of Packaging’ and the whole team indeed had a brilliant hands on experience. |

| The felicitation program was held in the school premises on 24th April, 2010. Students were given certificates as an award of excellence for the year 2009-10. |
